How did the Titanic change the history of ship? One way the Titanic changed shipbuilding history is the way they design ships. They change many things to make the ship stronger and more efficient. Also, the Titanic changed the history of ships in the welfare of a ship and the representation of a ship. The eventual topic is sea travel or what they do differently to make voyages across oceans safer.

How did the Titanic change designs of the ships to make them safer for traveling? The design of the ship has changed in a magnificent way. They added a double hull and higher watertight bulkheads. They put these changes in the Titanic’s younger sister. HMHS Britannic or the Titanic’s little sister was built November 30, 1911 and was launched February 26, 1914. Bulkheads offer more strength to the ship to make the walls stronger. One big reason why the Titanic sunk is because the bulkheads weaken causing the ship to be pinch forward. This causes the water to spill over into more compartments.

Furthermore a double hull is a design of a ship where there are two layers instead of one on the bottom and sides of ships. Furthermore when a ship is penetrated by ice or any other hard object in the ocean, the object will only make minor damage. The object would have to penetrate a second layer to cause a major problem. The reason is to ensure a minor problem or hole doesn’t change into a major problem or even sink the boat. The double hull helps with any other hull damage because the ship basically has 2 bottom layers and 2 sides

The Titanic has changed ship safety in many ways. One way they have changed is lifeboats. In the Titanic, 1,178 people could fit onto lifeboats. The Titanic sunk with 2,224 people on board. What they changed was that the boat must carry enough lifeboats to get every passenger on board to safety. If a boat could hold 1,600 people and 1 lifeboat could only hold 80 people at a time, there must be at least 20 lifeboats on the ship or on the side of the ship.

The second proposal they did was communication. They have added to every ship 1,600 tons of wireless apparatus. Present day ships get weather reports, it shows them their position in the ocean, and it makes it easier to communicate in case of an emergency. It took 20 years till they actually changed the design and method of the radio. They continue to update and make these apparatus more advanced. Now any ship with an emergency has immediate contact with land and other nearby ships to help them. There were 51,405 ships in the world’s merchant fleets in January of 2016 and there is on average 1 ship sunk a year. When the Titanic was made, at most 500-10,000 ships were constructed, which meant 1/500-10,000 ships sunk yearly. Since then there are 1/51,405 ships that sink every year. That’s a dramatic change.

The final way Titanic changed ship history is Sea Travel. The U.S. Navy for 2 years patrolled the seas for icebergs, wreckage parts, and people. In 1914 they formed the International Ice Patrol. They were designed to monitor the movement of the sea and iceberg presence. In 1913 the International Ice Patrol was announced part of the U.S. Coast Guard. Today instead of boats they use aircraft to fly over the sea and patrol it that way which is extremely dangerous. They fly as close as 40-100 ft away from the icebergs and water.
