Recreation has been always important to us. We embrace the moments of blissful rest which pass but too fast in the variety of possible occupations ranging from lying passively on the couch to kayaking down a mountain river. Notwithstanding the type of a recreational activity most people have the same motives in their minds: they want some distraction from the routine either at work or at home, they wish to have different, informal kind of social interaction, and they desire to get relieved from work stress and anxieties.
Distraction is main value of hobbies or other outside work interests. Those interests give people emotions which they could never possibly experience in the offices during long working hours. Recreation interrupts grey pattern of work bringing more color into their lives.
There is another reason of why recreation is vital to everyone. We tend to meet new people who can become our acquaintances, useful contacts or even good friends. It might not be true, of course, for certain pastime behaviors. One can never meet another human looking at a TV screen. However, those who profit by active tourism may enjoy talking to new people in informal setting.
Recreation brings not only a change of environment but it also reduces stress. Only workaholics can work nonstop and even they experience grave consequences when burnout happens. We are simply not able to exert ourselves until no limit. Relaxation is needed to restore our body and mind to eventually make us fit for further work.
In conclusion, recreation is crucial element in modern lifestyle. It should happen regularly and it should happen to everyone if we want to have healthy society full of active and capable individuals.
